We are very excited for the first SodiumStar to go to an observatory located in Europe. The Gran Telescopio Canarias (also GRANTECAN or GTC) is a 10.4-m telescope at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma, in the Canaries, Spain. It is actually the world’s largest single-aperture optical telescope with the segmented mirror design being derived from the Keck telescopes. This makes it all the more incredible that up to now this telescope does not have an adaptive optics system. Since the laser guide star will only be added in a later upgrade, for now we installed the laser in a laboratory at Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC) on the island of Tenerife. Thanks to the great team at IAC who are also responsible for the entire AO system (GTCAO). Good look to you guys for quickly getting your system on sky.
