Installation of first LMA system

This week we installed four of our amplifier systems for satellite uplinks and deep space communication at a customer site in the US. The large mode area amplifier systems will be mounted directly to a telescope in an optical ground station (OGS), where the fiber-coupled output will be fed into small launch telescopes also mounted to the larger receive telescope. This optical ground station is intended to establish secure communications between Earth and satellites and space missions. We custom-engineered these modules to meet the customers requirements and to allow four of these systems to be mounted directly on the telescope.

We’re excited to share more information in the future when this system is fully operational and first results are published by the operator.

We recently introduced these amplifiers specifically designed for free space optical communications at the ICSO conference in Antibes, France.
