On 26 April 2016 ESO’s Paranal Observatory in Chile hosted an event to mark the first light for the four SodiumStar laser systems that form a crucial part of the adaptive optics systems on ESO’s Very Large Telescope. This was a great opportunity for some of us who usually don’t get to travel to observatory sites to visit this fascinating place and get a once-in-a-lifetime laser show against the magestic skies of the Atacama desert.
